Extend-A-Life Of Quality In Your Practice

“What’s authentic about us, is we create, we endure, we overcome, we love and we become greater than our sufferings…” When I heard this saying in one of my favorite television series, I can’t help but agree in its simple truth. Our profession like the description of what a human being is can do create, endure and overcome. Create a better and healthy community, endure the challenges we encounter in our profession and overcome the trials we experience almost everyday. All we need is the courage to do it now.We all know that as dental practitioners, there’s such a cruel cycle going through in our system for a long time. Our patients expect to pay a lower price and we end up lowering our standard of treatment. But, when does it end? I think we should start within ourselves. There should be a limit of where we will compromise of what should supposed to be in the name of economic reasons. First, we need to know and understand why we are in this profession in the first place. Second, we need to know and accept what kind of a dentist we are. And, last, we have to figure out what we can do to define that in our practice.
When we get to define, we don’t need to compromise the quality of our treatment especially on the materials we used to our patients. All we have to do is understand the materials we do buy. It is okay that we consider the price and it is also okay that we find ways to save. But, saving materials is not the same as re-using what supposed to be disposable. Saving materials means we need to use them well. It means following the instructions of the manufacturer in storage, handling and use. And, lastly find something that can prolong its shelf life. For example, our dental burs. Burs are one of the most used material in our clinic, the most frequently we disposed off, so, some dentists instead of understanding what it is, they rather used substandard quality of it. Hence, they actually waste more than saving more. Low quality of burs is normally not on ISO standard, so, we even sometimes end up damaging our handpiece not to mention ending up with a very substandard quality of our work. So, why do that? If we just try to understand, we will know that there are simple materials that can help prolong its life without buying substandard burs. Extend-a-life can clean and prolong the life of your burs and buying it will not break your bank account. Wouldn’t you rather spend a little now and save more later than save now but lose a lot later? You decide…
